![]() Alright then. Here we are with a change of seasons, a change of temperatures, a change of attitude and some new boat lines to introduce to you. Things are looking up for us and the boat business in general, and although we are hardly out of the woods yet we do at least feel like we are walking on some solid ground through the Apalachicola National Forest instead of slogging through the depths of Tate's Hell swamp. We are going to start our newsletter with a reprint of Marc's latest blog post and then introduce you to a couple of new (for Wefing's) boat lines as well as a preview of Seafood Festival. So strap on that automatic inflatable PFD and turn your hat around and we'll get moving. I Feel Like a Boat Dealer Again! first posted Oct 15 to "Fish Tales" blog ![]() After the last couple years of economic upheaval and financial turmoil and a gigantic insult to the earth and Gulf Coast residents known as Deepwater Horizon, things seem to be settling down some and we are getting back to the business of making people happy selling boats, motors and providing uncommonly good service. During the mad repo days, the weaker dealers, manufacturers and finance companies were sorted out. We also met the “predatory mentality” buyers [they came out of the woodwork] that value price and preying on other’s misfortune or weakness above all else and worry about warranties, relationships, and service later, or not at all. Thankfully we still have the folks that want to do business locally [and give you a fair shot at their business] and the folks that are like minded in their love of pilothouse boats and cruising boats, and the great variety of quality brands that we specialize in that come from all over to see and learn about what they like in the low pressure environment we pride ourselves in. Another more pleasant side effect of the hard times is that the remaining dealers in this industry have a new respect for each other as survivors. I have noticed a real common bond and desire to help each other out to keep the quality of the boater’s experience and the industry healthy. The end result is positive for the consumers and those that make their living in the boating industry. We have begun ordering boats again from selected manufacturers that have quality, value and integrity. After all, there is something about the smell and feel fresh fiberglass and freshly painted or anodized aluminum! Not to mention "breaking in" your own new outboard or inboard motor and learning the systems and intricacies of a new boat. Some of our new products include Sea Ark Aluminum Boats from Arkansas,a highly respected builder of commercial and recreational craft to 24' and K2 Marine [other wise known as Bill Kenner] with his Blackjack and Frontier lines of bay boats [also from Arkansas], and a revitalization of Honda marine with their new EFI outboard offerings. We are still very much a Yamaha, Suzuki and Tohatsu dealer, Sundance boats are coming on strong with new products and Ranger Tugs are bringing new models to the marketplace as well. C Dory is back in the picture and we are happy to see them make it through some challenges. We are excited to order our first boats from Triton Marine industries ,builder of C Dory Boats . As usual, we will be making our presence known at a few boat shows including the Florida Seafood Festival [our own boat show],our first appearance at the Saint Petersburg Boat Show , and our annual appearance at the Atlanta Boat Show, and a few others around the Southeast. All in all, I am starting to feel like a boat dealer again. And it feels pretty good!! ~~ Marc Grove DEALERSHIP NEWS Wefing's is proud to be able to bring a couple of new boat lines onto our lot this fall. We saw many boat lines at the shows we attended over the last year, met a lot of reps and boat builders, and picked what we felt were the two most promising to add to our lineup and replace a couple of lines, fill in a couple of niches that had been left empty by boat builders that didn't make it through the worst of the hard times. ![]() We are happy to announce a deal with Bill Kenner of K2 Boats (great boats, bad website) to carry both his Blackjack and Frontier lines of inshore and near shore boats. As with everything Bill has ever been involved in, these boats display an impressive level of attention to the things that count and are truly the products of a skilled boat designer/user who puts a lot of thought into every detail. We have a Blackjack 224 in stock (see above picture). The boat has an impressive list of features and a truly high quality fit and finish, as well as a beautiful and downright sexy design. This boat should please the most discriminating angler with its fishability and fit and finish . We can rig it with anything from a F 150 Yamaha to a 300 HP Yamaha . Whatever your needs in a high quality Bayboat, we can make it happen . ![]() We also have both the Frontier 180 and the Frontier 210 (that's it in the slings above) in stock and on our lot and are happy to offer any serious prospective buyers an on the water demonstration. Heck, we just like an excuse to get out on the water in these fine boats. The Frontier line both have impressive feature sets and a very attractive price point. They come with power matched Yamaha motors and tested and propped for the best performance and reliability . ![]() We are also going to be carrying the best of all the welded aluminum utility type boats we've ever seen, the Sea Arks from SeaArk Boats in Arkansas. These guys really know how to build a tough workhorse of a boat that will be superlative for a river boat, hunting boat, shallow water fishing boat or all around work and play boat. We call them "forever boats" Right now we have a number of their models in stock and ready to go to work or take you out to play. We have 15 through 24 footers with tiller outboard drive, center console and side console models. We even have jet drive tunnels and prop drive tunnels for extreme shallow water performance. Seafood Festival Time in Apalachicola ![]() Seafood Festival is almost here again. Every year, the first weekend of November arrives and Apalachicola turns into one big party! We love Seafood Festival, it invigorates our little town, gets out all the locals for some good fun and brings more visitors by far to town in two days than any other event all year. We have come to think of the Seafood Festival as our own hometown Boat Show and go all out with a full lineup of our boat lines displayed across the wide boat ramps at the end of the Marina in Battery Park (locally known as "Ten Foot Hole") that the entire Festival is wrapped around. We are almost under the bridge so you can't possibly miss us and if you can't be convinced to attend the Seafood Festival for the tons of local fresh seafood, the Blessing of the Fleet, the Seafood Festival Parade, the Midway full of rides and carny food, the park full of artists and craftsmen displaying and selling their wares, the games for kids and adults of all ages, the blue crab races, the contests ranging from oyster eating and shucking, to the 5K Redfish run, and the two-days-and-on-into-the-night of great live music culminating in a set by recording artist John Michael Montgomery at 8 PM on Saturday November 6 ...then let us convince you to attend to visit with us and see our full line of boats in a beautiful and fun setting. ![]() We know that many of our friends from out of town travel with their C-Dory or Ranger on-the-water homes with them. However, a lot of folks don't yet have a fully equipped cruiser home and even when you do, sometimes it is nice to hole up in a special spot for a night or two. We'll bring you a selection of some of our favorite local places to do just that from time to time. Also, if you live outside our area and are considering a new boat purchase, please keep our free lodging offer in mind. Waterstreet Hotel & Marina The Waterstreet Hotel and Marina is one of our favorite places to put up our special guests who come here for either our yearly C-Dory Gathering or to pick up a new boat purchase or just bring their boat when they visit Apalachicola and want a place where they can both keep their boat and stay in comfort and style. ![]() If you are traveling here by boat there are slips available with new, clean, shower and restroom facilities and very nice new floating docks. Their 20 transient slips are available for rent with a room or without, and can accommodate power or sail boats up to 55 feet in length. There is also parking for your boat trailer while you are exploring our area's waterways. Truly a great addition to Apalachicola's docking and lodging opportunities. ![]() Come for a weekend or stay an extra little while. While you are here, indulge in the area's specialty - seafood, especially the oysters! Stroll the tree-lined streets showcasing the city's 250 homes and buildings on the National Register of Historic Places or the Hotel has a "stretch limo golfcart" that you can hitch a ride on around town. Visit our parks, shop the boutiques and art galleries, or just plain relax. This is a place where Simple Pleasures Come Alive. This unique 30 suite hotel and 20 slip marina lies in an Old Florida setting with today's modern conveniences. Only four blocks from the center of Apalachicola, its beautiful turn-of-the-century look captures the solitude of life by the water. For centuries people have come here to fish, relax, enjoy the river and escape. Now it's your turn. Okay then. We're going to wind it up and go see if we can get in on some of the great Fall fishing that is really kicking off around these here parts. Let's see, what would be good for dinner....redfish? trout? flounder? or maybe if the weather is nice we'll run out past the Island and bring home a nice grouper or snapper for dinner. So little time...so many fish. ![]() Thanks for reading, that's all until next issue. Please come and visit us soon and, if nothing else... We'll See You On The Water! |
